Description

The debut LP from Oakland-based LAMENT CITYSCAPE, The Torn, showcases the duo’s monstrous doom-fueled industrial metal with fifty-two minutes of material. Released via Battleground Records, the LP is limited to 300 copies, pressed on 180 gram black vinyl, including digital download and a four page color insert.

The dominant movements LAMENT CITYSCAPE — comprised of Mike McClatchey and Sean McCullough — creates resemble the slowly forward-crushing thrust of the massive tectonic plate fault lines below the surface of their Bay Area hometown. A biomechanical creation where the mechanized elements of industrial metal tones and percussive flow are personified through a more organic doom/sludge metal amplification and approach, The Torn, offers a cinematic atmosphere reminiscent of the brooding and nebulous angst of early Godflesh, Ministry, and Swans, while their thundering low-end crosses onto the more punishingly heavy, cerebral works of Neurosis, Ufomammut and regional cohorts, Secrets Of The Sky. Engineering for the drums and bass on The Torn was handled by Jack Shirley at The Atomic Garden Recording Studio in East Palo Alto, with all other engineering and mixing by the band and Scott Weiser at Underland Studios in Oakland, the album completed with mastering and artwork by the band as well.
